About the Sea Turtles
In the Sea Turtle classroom, we continue to follow individualized schedules for each infant to ensure their daily routines meet their unique needs.
As infants grow and begin approaching 12 months of age, our teachers work closely with families to help prepare them for the transition into the final infant classroom, where children begin following a more consistent daily schedule.
Curriculum & Daily Activities
Infants in the Sea Turtle classroom are introduced to an age-appropriate curriculum designed to support their developmental milestones. Through guided play, sensory activities, music, books, and hands-on experiences, our teachers encourage curiosity, movement, communication, and early problem-solving skills. Our goal is to create a nurturing environment where infants can continue to grow, explore, and build confidence as they prepare for the next stage of development.
Environment
Our mobile little ones are offered a challenging yet safe environment to explore promoting their development. We set up their environment to encourage them to strive for the next stage. We display toys and learning materials in an enticing way around the classroom to encourage them to explore. We provide them with safe structures for them to pull up on and cruise around. We carefully guide their first steps.
Sea Turtles are separated from the other babies for the majority of the day so they can explore and be curious without being stepped on or constantly redirected away from newborns.
Developmental Milestones
By 12 months, babies will:
Play games with you like pat-a-cake
Wave “bye-bye”
Calls a parent “mama” or “dada” or another special name
Understands “no” by pausing briefly or stopping when you say it
Puts something in a container, like a block in a cup
Looks for things they see you hide, like a toy under a blanket
Pulls up to stand
Walks, holding on to furniture
Drinks from a cup without a lid as you hold it
Picks things up between thumb and pointer finger such as small bits of food
Why Scripps Exploring Academy?
At Scripps Exploring Academy, our crawlers have a separate classroom. Being apart from the non-mobile babies allows for the crawlers to freely explore their learning environment. This also allows the staff to create a dynamic learning environment for this busier age group. We strive to have excellent parent communication and build strong relationships with our families so we can partner in your child’s development, education, and care.
